Two Japanese car models are terrific rivals in the market today. These are the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS 4WD whose price is $28,815 and the 2007 Toyota RAV4 4×4 whose price is $23,574.
According to the news, the redesigned 2007 Outlander is a make-or-break product for troubled Japanese automaker Mitsubishi. The midsize crossover vehicle hits the U.S. market with new competitors Mazda CX-7 and Ford Edge.
But one of the most potent rivals of the Outlander is the Toyota RAV4, which was redesigned last year.
Both offer optional third-row seating and can be ordered in either front- or four-wheel drive.
In comparison with Toyota RAV4, the Outlander’s exterior is refined and larger in size. The exterior shape looks fresh modern, and stylish. On the tail, the rear three-quarter view is generic and clunky, with massive rear pillars and a narrow rear window that tends to restrict vision.
Toyota offers a much more contemporary shape in the RAV4, far more stylish than the Outlander. This is quite an accomplishment for Toyota, considering the previous RAV was one of the original “cute utes,” while the latest iteration is considerably larger and more grown up.
Inside the cabin, both cars have excessive fake-metal gray plastic. But Mitsubishi’s instrument panel is a mixture of mismatched parts and materials that according to a press release is “a virtual jigsaw puzzle that cheapens the overall ambience of the cabin”.
The Outlander, with its $1,600 luxury package, has leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat, while the RAV4 makes do with manual, cloth-covered chairs.
The RAV4 has two rows of seats. The second row ca be reclined and be adjusted for additional leg space, and the split folding seatbacks flip down at the pull of a lever on either side of the cargo bay. There is an ample under floor storage bin in the rear.
The RAV4′s controls and displays are simple and easy to comprehend. Materials are of high quality, although some pieces do not fit as snugly as people come to expect from Toyota.
The Outlander’s front seats are comfy and supportive. There is less space in the second row, and there have no many amenities for occupants back there. The rear center armrest lacks a pull strap, and while the tiny third-row folds neatly into the floor that it looks cheap and flimsy and is a chore to use.
The Outlander has some nice touches, including steering-wheel controls and simple rotary dials for the HVAC controls. But there are some questionable designs and engineering choices, too. For instance, the switches for the heated seats are stuffed between the inner seat edges and the center console.
When it comes to safety, both vehicles come fully configured in terms of occupant safety systems with standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, side air bags for front-seat occupants, and side curtains for the first and second rows.
Next: the power train. Even the base Outlander comes with a standard overhead-cam 3.0-liter V-6, there is no four-cylinder version. The RAV4, in comparison, is equipped with a standard twin-cam 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, with a DOHC 3.5-liter V-6, which is available as an option.
The Outlander has the V-6 and a six-speed automatic transmission, while the four-cylinder RAV4 comes with a four-speed automatic. The Mitsubishi V-6 is rated at 220 horsepower, and the EPA fuel-economy numbers are not too shabby, at 19 miles per gallon in city driving and 26 on the highway.
The RAV4′s base configuration is rated by the EPA at 23 in the city and 27 on the highway. The optional V-6 is considerably more potent than the one in the Outlander, delivering a whopping 269 horsepower; it comes with a five-speed automatic.
Both cars display the supple car-like ride that is typical among crossovers. The Outlander rides on 18-inch wheels and tires, while the RAV4 comes with optional 17-inch wheels and tires. Further comparison by car enthusiasts between the Mitsubishi and the Toyota outer tie rod end is also needed to comprehend which steering control is safer on the road.
Both cars are relatively easy to maneuver and park, and while they don’t exactly feel like sports cars, they are fairly nimble and responsive.

Let’s talk about what exactly the truck driver is responsible for when it comes to hauling freight. To be on the safe side let’s assume that the truck driver is responsible for absolutely everything unless I specifically say otherwise.
And I probably won’t say otherwise.
A typical story you’ll hear a truck driver tell after his truck has tipped over is, “I was going around the curve on the offramp and the load shifted causing the truck to tip.” And I believe every word of this story almost every time because that’s exactly what usually happened, except they left out a couple of details….what they should have said was, “I was going too fast around the curve on the offramp and the load, that I said was loaded properly and was safe for travel, shifted causing the truck to tip.”
Couple of really important things to note here.
The first one simply relates to how fast a truck can go around a curve. In trucking, there’s two ways to find out. One, you could hire an engineer and give them the numerical details involving weight, center of gravity height, turn radius, etc and a few simple calculations later you have the exact speed a specific truck can go around a particular curve.
The easier way is too just get in a truck and find out the “real world” way.
DON’T do this. NOT EVEN ONCE!
Often times when a truck tips over on an interstate highway ramp the driver knew when he took the exit that he was going way too fast but figured he’d find a way to get it slowed down really quickly. Misjudgments in a big rig can be really, really bad sometimes. Really bad.
Taking chances and making assumptions as a truck driver can be equally terrible. I realize that it’s out of order to cover this topic right now but I don’t care….nothing in the world is more important to any trucker than safety. There is no bad time to mention it.

In a business or formal situation, men tend to wear suits or a smart jacket and trousers. Although ties have been worn less in recent years, their popularity is returning, some say in response to the current economic turn down.
Ties are a way of expressing your personality and roughly speaking, men can be placed into one of six “personality” groups and these can often be distinguished by the ties they keep in their wardrobe.
- Do you have lots of different designs in your tie collection including bow ties and cravats?
If so you are probably “Creative”. You may have hobbies such as writing or music and you tend to bend the dress code rules and wear unusual and noticeable items of clothing. A good example of this group is Sir Bob Geldof or David Bowie.
- Do you have ties that are brightly coloured and flamboyant? When you wear a tie nobody could fail to notice it.
If so you are probably “Dramatic”. You have a zest for life and like fast cars and hi tech gadgets. You like to be noticed when you walk into a room. Famous examples of Dramatics are David Beckham and George Michael.
- Are your ties very personal and you they represent a memory of the time you bought them or a special occasion you wore them to?
If so you are probably “Romantic”. You like to keep yourself fit and healthy. You enjoy luxury and comfort, your clothes are well maintained and you are always appropriately dressed for every occasion. Bryan Ferry and Sting are good examples of a Romantic.
- Are your ties good quality and match your outfit? Are your ties conservative yet smart?
If so you are probably a “Classic”. You are well organised and punctual, and prefer routine to a sudden change of events. Your clothes will always be quite formal and traditional. Prince Charles and Bill Clinton are good examples of a “classic”.
- Do you own one or two ties and wear them when you have to?
If so you are probably a “Natural”. You probably prefer to dress casually as often as possible and you like to participate or watch sport of all kinds. You don’t feel you need to make a statement with the way you dress or the car you drive. Famous examples of this group are Jude Law and Jamie Oliver.
- Do you update your ties regularly so you always have a tie that is modern and chic?
If so you are probably an “International”. You probably prefer sports you can play anywhere like swimming or tennis, you like to be fashionable but never overstated and you prefer your surroundings to be uncluttered and minimalistic. Pierce Brosnan and George Clooney are actors who fit into this group.
The tie you choose can be an indication of your personality, your likes and dislikes. Using this psychology you can adapt your style to suit the situation you are in. Equally you may be able to judge a strangers personality to an extent by observing his tie.
